Recently, classroom teachers in grades K-5 sent home a parent report of your child’s reading screening assessment. We would like to take an opportunity to share more about this process. Our teachers have many ways to assess your child's reading development and growth, including an early literacy universal screening assessment (Acadience Reading K-6), which is administered to all students three times a year in grades K-5. An early literacy screening tool is a way for teachers to identify how students are reading. It is an assessment that takes about 10 minutes to administer and it is given 1:1. We look at how they are comprehending, breaking down words, and sounding out. Screening makes it possible to identify if a student is at risk of developing reading difficulties, including the possible risk of dyslexia.
